O Charleston, May God Comfort You.

There's nothing theologically profound to say here, just a prayer for the families of  Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina

"Lord Jesus, I pray that the hurting families in this Church would know the peace and comfort of their Father in heaven in this time of troble.

I ask that you would draw near and comfort wives who have lost husbands, husbands who have lost wives, children who have lost a parent, families who have lost loved ones, friends who never had the chance to say their last goodbyes, and a congregation that has lost its shepherd.

I pray that in the coming days, as these hurting families wrestle with the question, "why?", you would grant them peace of mind to rest, even in the uncertainty.  I pray that you would remind them that nothing can ever separate us from your love in Christ Jesus, and that even in death, we still have the great hope of a reunion with our beloved ones who have gone ahead of us.

I ask that you would grant the Charleston community courage, strength, and wisdom to discern how to comfort one another in their mourning.

May your peace rest over this city. In Jesus name I pray.

Amen."

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 - "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ."
